Meet Lucas, my point-of-view book character with non-verbal autisms with a free chapter.

Updated: May 30

Every time I put a book out, I worry that it’s terrible. Everyone will hate it. It’s the worst thing I’ve ever written, possibly that anyone has ever written. And on and on. No more so was this the case that with Home. Despite extensive research, I was nervous to put words into the mind of a non-verbal autistic character. Who was I to say what Lucas thinking or feeling? Notwithstanding that doubt, I wanted to give him the voice he wouldn’t have in real life.

If you're curious about Lucas’s world, I put one of my favorite chapters from his point-of-view on my website. Just click the box that says “Chapter Excerpt.” Here’s the link: https://www.leannetreese.com/women-s-fiction

And here's what early readers are saying:

“Also thoroughly enjoyable is getting inside the mind and heart of an autistic 18-year-old young man.”—Anne M. Bennett

“Home does what many are afraid to do by giving a voice for those that don't always have one with autism.”—Jena, ARC Reviewer

“Not to be a spoiler, but #TEAMLUCAS!”—Amazon Customer

“As an educator... I've always wondered what these students think, especially the non-verbal students. I thought the author did an excellent job with her research of autistic mannerisms and behavior.”—ahanneken, Educator and Reviewer

“This book caught my eye... the sacrifices a sister makes for her brother is amazing. This book was addicting and hard to put down.”—Cara M., Direct Support Professional

I hope you are able to get to know Lucas. He's one of my favorite characters. :)

With gratitude,Leanne
